The goal of chiropractic and other forms of conservative conserva-tive care is to remove the irritation ir-ritation of the sciatic nerve. This may mean re-establishing proper motion of the joints or the low back that are near the origin of the sciatic sci-atic nerve. Some cases may involve loosening the muscles that surround the sciatic nerve, so that less pressure is placed on the sciatic nerve. The most common muscle that seems to place excessive pressure of the sciatic nerve is a muscle found deep in the gluteal region known as the piriformis. Surgical treatment for sciatica sci-atica can also be performed to help lessen the irritation of the sciatic nerve. Surgical treatment is not recommended recommend-ed unless the symptoms are quite severe.
