We are lucky that we get some money from these receipts. Rob Marsh and Randy Taylor, Valley Market representatives, came and gave us a check for $500. We turn in so many receipts that we get about $500 twice a year. It is so generous of those who turn in all those receipts so that we have nice things for our school. This is an awesome community. Valley Market is helping us so much, so keep shopping at the Valley Market. And students, keep bringing in those receipts. You’re great! Thank you Valley Market! Sixth Grade Student Reporter Mrs. Evan’s class recently discussed the possibility of students entering the “Follow a Leader” essay contest. Since the 6th grade is run by an economic society, called Econo Me, all the students have jobs. They try to do their best in order to keep those jobs, which makes them good leaders. Essay contest winners are Austin Hecht, Tanner Post, and Christian Italiano. By Montana Wayment, Sixth Grade Student Reporter Valley Elementary School 6th grader Tanner Post is one of 15 national finalists in the nationwide Bubble Wrap inventor contest. Kids were asked to think of a need that could be fixed with bubble wrap. Tanner was very smart and thought of many ideas of how bubble wrap can help with a 72 hour emergency kit. Tanner and his creations will be featured in many magazines and newspapers in the United States. He also received $500 for his winning ideas, and will go on to the final part of the national contest. Follow a Leader Essay Contest By Montana Wayment, Bubble Wrap Twenty-five leaders throughout the state of Utah were chosen as essay contest winners through Macy’s Department Store. Macy’s essay contest is for students in grades 4th through twelfth. The student was to explain why he/she wanted to be like the leader. Mrs. Evans assigned us to write an essay about what makes a good leader. Some of us chose to enter our essays into the contest. We where judged against all the students who entered the contest in the state of Utah, and three people in our class won! The winners are Tanner Post, who wrote about Gary Summers, President of Meadow Gold Dairy; Christian Italiano who wrote about Pat Bagley, an editorial cartoonist; and Austin Hecht, who wrote about Jason Jones, Head of the Utah Blaze. Because of their winning essays, these students get to spend a day with the leaders they wrote about. Also, they get to be in many very big magazines and newspapers across the United States. His ingenuity was spurred by a national contest asking students to come up with their best inventions for use of the popular bubble wrap. More than 1,400 entries were received from students in 39 states. One of 15 semifinalists to move into the finals, Tanner is now trying for the grand prize of a $10,000 U.S. savings bond. The winner will be announced at a January 28 awards ceremony held in New Your City on January 28. Tanner is the son of Natalie and Jeff Post of Liberty. Marvin and Jessie at Valley By Montana Wayment, Sixth Grade Student Reporter On November 13, 2007, the sixth graders participated in the Marvin and Jessie assembly. If you don’t know what a Marvin and Jessie assembly is, it is a assembly where Mrs. Short, Mrs. Sacket (Jessie), and Mr.Reese (Marvin) teach us many things like: Being Helpful, Saying Nice Things, and Respect. Every grade gets to participate in a Marvin and Jessie assembly during the year. It is very fun to do a Marvin and Jessie assembly. The sixth grade did a play on respect, and also sang a song about respect. When we sang, there were actions, we dressed up, and we even had sixth graders in the play. We even had boys playing guitars while we sang. It was a very fun assembly. Valley always looks forward to the Marvin and Jessie. Marvin and Jessie Assembly at Valley Elementary. Jackson used a double camera to made stereoscopic views of Yellowstone, and created dioramas. Alberttype is the name of an engraving process invented in 1868 that enabled highquality prints to be made of photographic images for the first time. Joseph Albert’s process allowed intermediate gray tones, much like a photograph. Edward Bierstadt held the American rights to the process and made these engravings for Hayden’s use in documenting his expedition and promoting Yellowstone and exploration.
