Show TWO NOBLE WOMEN ELIZABETH RICHARDS sister bister elizabeth richards lii charde whose death notice appears under the appropriate beading in another part of this paper la Js another of those who have 11 the good foht and gone peacefully to the great beyond the deceased was born in the state of kentucky on june 1809 and was married to silas richard Blo barde nov jtb 1829 in shelby county ohio she ahe embraced the gospel with her husband in the spring of 1840 in star county illinois being baptized by elder peter nicol I 1 aud and in 1846 received her bless ings ing in the nauvoo temple and shared in the persecutions of the saints saint in belog being driven from their homes un on that city and arrived at Ka kanesville Kanes neaville ville on the of june in the same year remaining there till 1849 in 1847 when the pioneers returned to winter quarters and a log tabernacle was built at kanesville Kanes ville sister bister richards fed and lodged thirty of them for several days and it was wag at this time and in this place where brigham young was voted in as preel deot dent of the church heber C klor kim ball prophesied here in regard to sister richards and her family that they should never want for food a prediction which up to this time has been literally fulfilled 49 mother richard Rl charde J as she was wag familiarly called was a woman of nerve and independence in her younger days daye slid and drove EL a team the entire distance across th thi plains from nauvoo to salt lake city she left Ka neaville with her husband who was a captain of one of the companies and her family ou on july letb 1849 and arrived in salt lake city on october of the same year alter remaining in salt lake a few doys days they moved to what was then known as little cottonwood and was made president of the union district of the south cottonwood relief society and in the reorganization of the union ward in 1877 sue was appointed to preside over the union ward relief society on aug ath of that year and held that position at the time of her death she was a faithful latter day saint in every sense of the word she was the mother of six children twenty two grandchildren and forty nine great grandchildren THERESA crossgrove died of old age at the residence ot of bishop lewis H of bluff dale theresa raymond crof osgrove aged 91 years 3 months and 17 days widow ol oi charles Cro crossgrove CrosB grove or of new castle county delaware sister cross croas grove was the daughter of marcus raymond who came to pennsylvania from arrau aarau switzerland in the year 1816 with three children theresa francis and joseph her father and her brother joseph joeeph settled in susquehanna county pa while theresa and her bar brother francis went to delaware and embraced the gospel in the year 1843 and came to utah in 1857 mother Cro crossgrove Cruss grove ati as she was waa familiarly called was the mother of one son and six ix daughters four of the latter and her son eon embraced the he dospel and came with her to utah in all this industrious women woman passed through during a widower l state ot of forty two beare she ahe was ever sympathetic and hospitable to those suffering muttering affliction or experiencing distress never having been board beard to complain during her eventful life her soul was ever joyous in the knowledge that she had been permitted to receive the ibe gospel as aa ress restored orad through the prophet J oseph smith she survived two of her daughters and departed this hia life at 7 p in the dinst having been prostrated through the infirmities of age about one year ago at the home of bishop of bluff dale where her ever devoted daughter mary supplied her every wish to the idt moment of her life she having ing resided with them a great many years year |
