Show Palau Islands When a Jap artillery shell landed only 20 feet from the foxhole he was occupying, occupy-ing, Marine Corporal William L. Allen, 24, of 153 Third avenue. Salt Lake City, decided it was time to vacate. The decision was a wise one, for the next enemy shell landed directly in the hole he had just vacated. Allen landed here during a heavy enemy mortar and artillery artil-lery bombardment. That night, five Japs infiltrated his outfits line and a Marine in a foxhole ten feet away was bayoneted by-one by-one of the enemy. Two of the five Japs were killed and the rest ' raced through to their lines and took position in a cave. They were flushed out the next morning, morn-ing, h . Allen, is a former student of the University of Utah and enlisted enlist-ed in September, 1912. He is also a veteran of action on New Britain. |
