Show Mat nAWIIXS > OT A CANDmAffE I Elsewhere in this issue will be found a statement by Hon S R Thurman of Provo that Hon Joseph L Rawlins absolutely declines to be a candidate for United States senator this year We understand that Mr Thurman has had a letter from Mr Rawlins to this effect for several days but only yester I day did he make the fact public Mr Rawlins determination will be I a disappointment to his friends and I party No man in the Democratic party in Utah has had or has its confidence con-fidence and respect in greater degree than he It has been the hope and desire de-sire of the party to have Mr Rawlins represent the state in the federal senate sen-ate If the party carries the legislature legisla-ture this year that hope and desire cannot this year be realized But if at some future time when a senator is to be elected the party carries the legislature legis-lature it will hope to honor Mr Rawlins Raw-lins by electing him a senator Because Mr Rawlins positively declines de-clines to be a candidate for senator no one should get the idea that he will abate one bit his interest in the cause of Democracy or that he will cease to work for its success with the same zeal in the future that he has in the I past And the hearts of the Democrats of Utah will beat as warmly for him in I j the future as they have in the past II I I |
