Show THE CITYS nnFUXOT FUNDS The city funds that Treasurer May had in the Bank of Salt Lake may as well be charged up to profit and loss so far as getting anything out of the bank is concerned There seems < to be some dispute as to whether or not the treasurer knew that the bank was not sound It was his business to know if he did not and he could very easily have found out I It Is a well known fact that one of the county officials who had public funds deposited in this same bank withdrew them some liifcUe time before It foiled because the bank was not considered the soundest And we have heard it intimated that some of the treasurers bondsmen did not consider the bank bafe and that the treasurer was aware that they did not whether this is so we do not profess to know This much is certain that the city funds were in a rotten concern that its rottenness has been proven and that the city is out for a ibng time if not permanently some thirteen thousand dollars Where public funds shall be depos Lied is a matter that should receive the careful consideration of the next legislature legis-lature Depositories for the reception of state funds should be designated the same as they are for the reception of United States funds It would save I tote of trouble and funds too |
