Show Rep. King Releases Nominations to Service Academies Rep. David S. King of Utah Monday announced his nomination nomina-tion of 23 Utahns who will compete com-pete for 1960 openings at the U. S. Military, the Naval, Air Force and the Merchant Marine Academies. Four young men will compete for one opening at West Point, seven for two openings at Annapolis, Anna-polis, eleven for one opening at the new Air Force Academy in Colorado, and one for admission to the U. S. Merchant Marine Academy. Nominated by Mr. King for West Point consideration are: Terry W. Ward, Clearfield; Lor-an Lor-an D. Cook, American Fork; William Wil-liam C. VanBuskirk, now attending attend-ing schol in Germany; and Robert Rob-ert M. Mitchell, Bountiful. His nominees for the Air Force Academy are Buck Backman of Salt Lake City; Sidney Bever-idge, Bever-idge, Pleasant Grove; Brent L. Bowen, David M. Gelder, Salt Lake City; Ben R. Graham, Lay-ton; Lay-ton; Dennis E. Holtby, Salt Lake City; Robert I. McQueen, Salt Lake City; Tracey C. Newmeyer, and Robert C. Pace, Salt Lake City; Michael D. Pavich, Mid-vale Mid-vale and Ralph S. Roberts of Washington, D. C. For the Naval Academy, Mr. King nominated Robert B. Buck of Magna; Larry C. Johnson, Orem; Warren T. Jones; Ira T. Price, Provo, Steven A. Wolf; Roger D. Stephens and Roy D. Stephens, both of Salt Lake. Carl J. Carlson, Provo, was nominated to the Merchant Marine Ma-rine Academy. Selections were based on the results of a competitive Civil Service Examination administered adminis-tered to all applicants. The final choice of candidates is made by the academies, after further examinations of the nominees, nom-inees, he said. |
