Show Utah Firm Given Contract For Rocket First Stage Thiokol Chemical Corp. has been designated the Minuteman ICBM first stage engine contractor contrac-tor and given second stage engine en-gine production backup responsibility, respon-sibility, according to an Air Force announcement in Washington, Wash-ington, D. C. "Subject to successful demonstration demon-stration in test of their hardware," hard-ware," the Aerojet General Corp. at Sacramento, Calif., "will undertake un-dertake the production for the second stage propulsion unit," the Air Force said. At the same time it was announced an-nounced that the new first stage engine production plant at Thiokol Thio-kol would be a $34 million investment in-vestment and would employ 1300 or 1500 persons. Cost of Minute-man Minute-man assembly facilities at Hill Air Force Base was set at $11 million with an employment estimate esti-mate of over 800 persons. |
