Show CONFERENCE SPEAKERS RE-AFIRM THEIR BELIEF IN PRINCIPALS OF GOSPEL OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS The'value of a testimony of the gospel as revealed through ' patriarchal patri-archal blessings was the keynote of the tpiarterly conference of the Kolob stake held in the Springville high school auditorium last Saturday Sat-urday and Sunday. The visiting member of the general gen-eral authorities of the church was Presiding Patriarch Hyrum G. Smith, who was in attendance at all sessions. The conference opened Saturday morning with President G. R. May-cock May-cock presiding. The opening song "How Firm a Foundation" was sung by the congregation. The invocation in-vocation was by Gibson S. Condie. As a second musical number the congregation sang "Zion Stands With Hills Surrounded." The opening address was by President Maycoek who extended greetings to the members of the stake and expressed his pleasure at being priviliged to meet with them again. He was followed with a fervent address on the Importance of patriarchal blessings by Patriarch O. B. Huntington. Other speakers of the morning session were Presiding Pre-siding Patriarch Smith, who dwelt on the value of the priesthood and patriarchal blessings in living the tenets of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; and Alva Za-briskie, Za-briskie, recently returned from the Northwestern states mission. As a closing number the congregation sang "Lord Dismiss us With Thy Blessings." The benediction was by H. T. Reynolds, Sr. '"Guide Us O Thou Great Jehovah" Jehov-ah" was the opening song of the afternoon session. The invocation was by George E. Anderson. "Come, Come. Ye Saints," was the second number sang by the choir. The speakers were Fay Jensen, recently returned missionary from the Northwestern states 'mission; Patriarch Smith. Bishop J. Emniett Bird of the Springville First ward; Albert W. Ilarmer of the high council coun-cil and President Maycoek. Interspersing Inter-spersing the speakers the congregation congre-gation sang "We Thank Thee O God For a Prophet." and as a closing number "The Time Is Far Spent." The benediction was by M. E. Cran-dall, Cran-dall, Jr. The Sunday morning session opened with the congregation singing sing-ing "Now Let Us Rejoice." The invocation was by John S. Groesbeck. Groes-beck. The choir then sang "As the Dew From Heaven Distilling." President Maycoek greeted the Saints, and President Edwin M. Snow spoke on the importance of recognizing authority. A fervent discourse on the principles of the gospel was given by Grover Clyde, who recently returned from the mission field. The Fourth Ward ladies chorus then sang in splendid voice "Sing, Smile, Sleep.'' ''Mother's Day" was the subject of an eloquent address by Dr. George H. Briinhall, president-emeritus of the Brigham Young university. uni-versity. He was followed by Patriarch Pat-riarch Smith who spoke on '"The Joys of Motherhood." The choir and congregation sang the doxology and William G. Black of the high council offered the benediction. The Sunday afternoon session opened by the choir singing "God Be Merciful." Willis E. A fine program was- given in the evening by the Kolob stake Missionaries' Mission-aries' association, the speakers being be-ing William Peterson, Burton Tew, Kichard Johnson, Glen Coffmau, Sevoy J. Buyer and George Sim-kins. Sim-kins. Among the musical numbers was a trio by Dr. and Mrs. Earl Sumsion and Miss Gloria Colder. |
