Show Church Senior Softball Program Starts Thursday With First Game at 7:10 pm MILLARD COUNTY CHRONICLE Delta. Utah. Thurs. May 30. 1957 Plans are completed and teams ready for the opening of the ' Church summer softball program which is scheduled to begin Thurs day and Friday, May 30 and 31. Opening the senior softball lea gue will be Delta 1st Ward vs Hinckley at 7:10 p.m. on Thursday night in back of the Palomar in Delta. , Other games for the evening's schedule will be Delta 2nd vs Sutherland at 8:20 and Deseret vs Delta 3rd at 9:30 p.m. According to Chairman Willis Dutson, it Is hoped that all teams will try to be on time to get their game going ON SCHEDULE so as not to delay the evening's games, especially the teams playing in the 7:10 game. OFFICIALS ORGANIZED Willis Dutson is chairman of the committee for the Senior league with Lathel Callister, stake representative repre-sentative of the Melchizedek priest hood, and Melvin Lyman and Cecil Baker assisting. Also helping with the program to make it a success will be umpires: Carl Warner, George Bliss and Dick Hunsaker; Harry Crane is in charge of the lights and balls;. Perry Winsor is in charge of announcing; an-nouncing; and N. S. Bassett and Leon Hunsaker are in charge of publicity and scoring. All of these men put a lot of time and effort into the softball program to help make It a lot of fun as well as interesting. It is suggested that all team managers get a rule book as the games will be played according to rules to eliminate trouble and confusion later In the season. ENTRY FEES Willis Dutson also indicated that all team fees and registration fees must be paid so that the regional director will have them "by June 10, or the team will not be able to play in the league. Fees are $3.00 registration plus $5.00 per team, which will go toward to-ward paying for the lights and balls for the entire season. Friday and Saturday Nights Because of LDS conference this Saturday and Sunday the games are being played Thursday and Friday. But for the remainder of the season the games will be played play-ed on Friday and Saturday nights, except for the last Saturday In the month, which night Is set aside for MIA entertainment. If vou are wondering who Is re sponsible for getting the diamond in Dlavinz condition for the games it has been decided that the same program as last year would be carried out with the two teams playing the 7:10 game responsible for getting the field In shape. So this Thursday it will be Delta 1st and Hinckley; Friday it will be Oak City and Leamington. The committee wishes to thank nil those who have and are help ing to make this senior softball program the success it has been in the cast and who are working so hard this season to make it successful again, and wish to in vite everyone to come out and en joy the ball games this summer. Oasis 4-H Club The Oasis 4-H club met Thursday, Thurs-day, at the home of Diane Cahoon. The meeting was called tto order at 4 p. m. by Gwen Stanworth. The prayer was given by Louise Peterson, Peter-son, the pledge 'by Sue Willoughby. The members cooked, and refreshments refresh-ments were served. The next meeting meet-ing will be at the home of Sue Ann Ludwlg, Reporter, Sue Ann Ludwig Of Local Interest Mark and LaRee Condie Harris are announcing the birth of a baby girl May 22, at El Paso, Texas Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. E, D Harris, of Delta, and Mr. and Mrs. William Condie, of Cedar City. Mark is stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. Mrs. Ronald (Jennie) Nelson, and six-months old daughter, Adair Corinne, from Duluth, Minn., arrl ved in Delta Friday to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sagers, Mr. and Mrs. Clavton Giles and family of four left Delta this week end on a vacation into Idaho. Mrs. Vera Bishop, of Hinckley, spent several days last week in Delta visiting Mr. and Mrs. Don T. Bishop. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Holt, from Enterprise, visited Delta last week for Commencement at Delta High School, when their sister, Glennda Snow, received her diploma and the Finlinson award. Glennda and their mother, Mrs. Pearl Snow, re turned to Enterprise with the Holts for a weekend visit and to attend Commencement at Dixie College in St. George. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Peterson and children, from Flagstaff, Ariz, arrived in Delta Monday to visit their parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. Ward Moody. Mr. and Mrs. Dilworth Beckstorn, of Pangultch, visited in Delta on Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. M. Ward Moody. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Holman made a short visit in Delta over the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Holman. Eugene had been to CSU Commencement at Cedar City, when he received his diploma wiith the four-year graduates, and the Citizenship Award. This past year Eugene has taught school in Seattle, Wash., and also early L.D.S. Seminary classes. Bassett. left Delta Fri day for Colton, Cal., to work in the bees this summer with S. O. Stod dard. Mr. and Mrs. William S. Bassett and sister, Mrs. Louise Lyman, drove to Logan for Memorial Day, With them was Miss Eloise Bass ett, who joined them in Provo after a final exam at BYU. Mrs. June Works Smith entered the L.D.S. hosDital in Salt Lake City Friday for medical care. Her condition was considered "serious , and her husband. Ray Smith, and members of her family have been at the hospital with her. Her Illness is rare sDinal disease. Her mother Mrs. Blanch Works, talked with her Wednesday on the telephone, in her hospital bed, and June's condition is about the same as when she entered the hospital, not Improved but not worse. Avery Bishop, of Delta, and daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Stephenson, of Cedar City, are visiting this week in Idaho with Mr. and Mrs. Mahon- rl Bishop. Manse Warnick, who has been in the veterans' hospital In Salt Lake City, returned to Delta last week. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Lee Crawford and young sons, Glen Earl, Mark and Vinscent, arrived in Delta on Saturday to visit through the week with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Crawford. O. Stoddard, of Delta, became the winner of an English-style English-style bicycle with a three speed gear shift and front and rear hand brakes, through entering a Lone Ranger contest sponsored by Nes-tle's Nes-tle's chocolate bars. There were only fifty winners of such a prize in a field of several hundred thousand entries. Success ful contestants were selected not by The Nestle Company, Inc., which awarded the prizes, but 'by an independent and impartial judging jud-ging agency. Holler Skating Closed Season The roller skating at Hinckley, sponsored by Hinckley Lions, will be discontinued until further notice, no-tice, and there will "be no roller skating on Saturday nights until fall. However, the rink will be opened for special parties who may make arrangements for any night they wish. Visitors at . the home of Mr. and Mrs. Don T.
