Peay, scored an enviable en-viable record as a rifleman at Fort Ord, Calif., where he completed com-pleted his basic training before he left the past week for Germany. Ger-many. Jimmy's record was 194 out of a possible 200 and the previous record at the camp was 187, a report stated. Along with the honor attached to setting a new record at the camp, Jimmy received a letter of appreciation from Col. Edward McWilliams, for "outstanding service ser-vice while a member of the First Infantry Regiment; for willingness willing-ness to be of service, loyalty to the unit, as well as personal characteristics char-acteristics of dependability, efficiency effic-iency and. cooperation, earning the respect of officers and men of the unit." The letter of appreciation further stated that, "your ability and initiative contributed materially, mater-ially, to the fine record attained by the First Infantry and assisted in keeping it, 'always first.' Men of your caliber are the backbone of any organization." |
