Show Lawyer To SsitF Haise Marion Bistline Is Democratic Candidate For U. S. Senate Francis Marion Bistline, Pocatello Poca-tello lawyer, three term representative represen-tative from Bannock county and 1941' speaker of the house, this week announced his candidacy for the' U. S. Senate subject to the Democratic Primary. Known generally as a New Deal Democrat, he attended as delegate, the Democratic National convention, conven-tion, which nominated President Roosevelt for a third term. His leadership of the movement for a four-year university at Pocatello brought him first to public attention atten-tion in 1937, when the bill passed the house, to be later defeated in the Senate. Following his graduation from the University of Idaho, in 1917, he served in World war 1, and thereafter completed his law course at Northwestern in 1920. His: early' education was in Pocatello schools. Concerning his candidacy he issued is-sued the following statement; "Before throwing my hat into the ring, I made a trip Into all sections of the state to ascertain what people were doing and talking. talk-ing. Their primary interest, I found, was to get the war won, and most of them seemed to be taking the attitude that the desired result could best be accomplished by working instead of talking. "Politically, I found an overwhelming over-whelming opinion to the effect that some new faces in Washington from Idaho would probably be of benefit to the state and nation; that, what was expected of our congressional delegation was unswerving un-swerving support of the administration adminis-tration in the prosecution of the war, and the peace to follow. "Also many people regret that Idaho's resources, particularly the water power and strategic minerals, miner-als, such as tungsten and phosphates, phos-phates, are in such a retarding state of development, that they cannot be fully utilized in the war effort, and they are expecting their senators and Representatives to put forth every effort to accomplish accom-plish such development, thereby enabling Idaho to further do its part in the winning of the war. "As to my position primarily the Senate of the United States is a law making body, and I feel that my experience in legislative work, does to some degrees qualify me, to do the work, and accomplish the results, which the people of the state expect of the person who serves them as United Stales Senator." |
