Show H SCENERY OP SOUTHERN UTAH UNSURPASSED. H M By Mrs. M. J. Macfarlane. M The conviction that has gradual- H y been growing in the minds of M the people of Southern Utah that M the mountain scenery that lies at ( M their doors is unsurpassed in grand- H cur, has received fresh assurance M from the recent visit of the Brook- H lyn Eagle party composed of men H and women of wealth and cduca- H tion, whose travels in search of the beautiful in nature have taken them' H the world over. H In a speech made at the B. A. H C. dinner given by the Cedar City H Commercial club in honor of the H distinguished guests, Mr. .Alvah, H " Davisson, member of the New, H York Metropolitan Museum of' H ,, National History, Brooklyn Insti-I H tutc and Brooklyn Museum said,' H after paying tribute to the various H scenic wonders of America: H "We thought wc had seen all H there was to see our appctitics H sated; then wc came to Zion can-! H yon and could even the tongue of H J a recording angel do justice to that H view! The word 'scenery' is tooi H poor, When I looked at those walls ' H I thought of the words of the Mas- H tcr, 'In my Father's house arc many H mansions,' and my soul was liftsd H up until my poor cars heard the' H harmonies of celestial choirs and I H saw' not the walls of the mountains, H but walls of Jasper the gathering' H place of all the redeemed who ha -j H ever passed from earth." I H After more of the same exalted H strain Mr. Davison ended his H speech with "Zion Canyon, Gem ' H of the Earth." I H Mr. H. V. Kaltcnbom, managing H editor of the Brooklyn Eagle, mem- H her of the Brooklyn Chamber of, H Commerce and a lecturer of note, H also, paid glowing tribute to Zion H canyon, adding, "And I have had By - -v iMNaa Uic privilege of seeing something H as grand except in a different way H 'Cedar Breaks.' Mr. Kaltcnborn H predicted a great future for South- ( H em Utalt as a mecca for tourists H At the dinner sat Mrs. Stella H Lcviston of San Francisco, "Tour- H ing Mother of America," who said H afterwards in private, "You have H the world beaten for mountain H scenery. Why, our El Capitan could M be tucked into a corner of Zion H . ,., canyon without inconvenience." I |
