LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS The League of Women Voters' was founded in 1920 in order to help women exercise intelligently their newly-wo- n right to vote. Since its inception, the purpose of the LWV has been to promote political responsibility through informed and active participation of citizens in government. We are a organization that first studies local, state and national governmental problems chosen by the members and then, after areas of agreement have been reached, takes political action in these areas. non-partis- an The only qualification necessary for membership is that a woman be a U. S. citizen over 18. We welcome all women voters who are interested in seeing our democratic form of government work and who like to be when they go to the polls. well-inform- ed Ruth Petajan Sorority Award Given The next two week learn to swim class using the "total push" method will begin Tuesday, November 21st at 0 a.m, or 2 pjn. at Salt Lake City YWCA. This class is for from 3 to 6 years of age. It will begin every two weeks and be taught one hour each week day for ten sessions. Registration will be taken by phone or in person at YWCA. Also in session are swim classes for Tot 1, Tot 2, Tadpole, Polywog, Minnow, Mermaid, Beginner, Advanced BeIntermediate, and ginner, Swimmer. These classes are held twice a week for 5 weeks. The popular "Twelve Days of Christmas" class, which began October 17, is being held each Tuesday and Friday, except Friday, Nov. 24. The students are being taught to make decorations such as door swags, pine cone wreaths, tree wreaths, tree hangings, creche figures, table centerpieces, candies, snowmen and Christmas 9-1- 1-- pre-school- . ts- 5 8 5 aa i 5 mrmmm rrrinnnnrc Lynn Saunders 1 1 111 mrTpnnn Alpha Mu Chapter of Epsi-lo- n Sigma Alpha presented an award to Mrs. Sigvardt to honor her at an awards dinner held recently at the Capri Restaurant, Salt Lake City. The award, the ESA Fifth Degree Phallas Athene Award, is given for inspiration, recognition for personal attainment, imagination, wisdom, compassion and service. Mrs. Sigvardt affiliated in 1951 in Great Falls, Mont. She has served as president of the Montana State Council and of the Utah State Council, as well as president of two chapters. On the international level she has been finance chairman, parliamentarian and state president's council chairman. In 1963 she was selected "International Outstanding Girl." She also placed third place in an ESA essay contest and is a member of a sorority honor unit. Guardian of the Lamp Society. She has attended 10 international conventions. Mrs. R. H. Nickerson, Council President, presided. Mr. Wyman D. Babby, Area Director, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Aberdeen, South Da- "Ye-te-ha- y" kota, addressed the assembly on "Making Girl Scouting Relevant to Indians." Mrs. Douglas R. Johnson, Chairman of the meeting stated that the program for the day included a tour of the Indian School, a report on Traces Through Time, the national opportunity to be held in Vernal, Utah and a report on the 39th national convention of the Girl Scouts of the U.
