Beat the heat Officials at U.S. Air Force Hospital, Hill, have offered some tips on how to prevent dehydration and heat injury for those attending the show. While the air temperature is only expected to reach the high 80s, temperatures on the ground will be substantially higher. Infants, older people and people with chronic medi- cal problems are most susceptible to heat stress, but anyone can experience problems. Heat stress symptoms include nausea, muscle cramps, headache and faintness. The best way to avoid heat inj ury is to drink plenty of fluids, expecially water. Base officials will have water fountains available. Other preventative measures include eating lightly, avoiding alcohol, wearing protective clothing and hats or using an umbrel- la for protection against the sun. Use of sunblock is highly recommended. There will be three first aid stations available for anyone experiencing any problems. -- |
