Energy tips given Dont buy s larger or more powerful piece of household equipment than you need. Bigger isnt necessarily better. Make sure its size and power are right for your home by asking your denier, a trade association or a consumer interest group. Buy products on the basis of initial cost plus operating costs rather than on the basis of purchase price alone. Often products that are energy-efficie- nt cost more to buy, but you'll uve money and energy over the lifetime of such equipment. Share your ride this week! Liberty by Carol Shaw The North Ogden City Council set the Spring Clean Up dates for extra garbage collection and approved a franchise for cable TV in the city. An announcement was made that the next City Council Meeting will be held next Tuesday, at 6 p.m. at the Green Acres School Jo accomodate the public hearing required for a HUD grant application. The city crews will begin to pick up type garbage that is spring clean-u- p properly prepared and placed at curbside,' on Monday, April 23. They expect it to take several days to completely cover the city, but the bundles need to be out early Monday morning to insure not being missed. The city will pick up grass clippings and tree limbs and such, if they are bagged or bundled, but no rocks, sod or concrete will be accepted. In fact, Dennis Shupe, the City Administrator, said that they have been having trouble with people putting such items in with their regular garbage. The garbage collector has been tagging the garbage cans containing those things with notes, saying why the garbage is unacceptable. Anyone with rocks, bricks, sod or cement that they wish to dispose of, must take it to the county landfill west of the 24th Street Viaduct. Clippings, etc. must be in bags. Tree trimming must be tied in bundles, no longer than 6 ft. in length and weighing no more than 50 pounds. Heavy items, such as old fridges, stoves or car bodys, will be removed by the city if the party desiring the service will call the office and make the reguest prior to the clean-udate. It was suggested that anyone who has a lot of tree trimmings would be better off to obtain a burning permit from the fire department and simply burn the limbs themselves. p After a lively debate, the city council approved a franchise allowing a company to sell and install cable TV to residents of the city. The council with approved it with a split vote, councilmen Don Colvin and Lee Erickson voting against. Councilman Colvin explained that his objection was not to the basic cable TV service, but to the optional HBO (Home Box Office) unit that may be purchased for an additional $9 per month. 3-- 2, . The HBO unit will allow a family to receive movies on channel 6. Many of the movies will be R rated, according to the sales representative for the company. But, he explained, a person may order a locking devise, at no extra charge, which will allow a parent to lock the TV set with a key, so that channel 6 will not be received until it is unlocked. The city council approved the franchise subject to the companys giving clear advertising concerning the HBO lock.
