Show Alma Hollis, 34, Killed Instantly Bv Electrocution Milford residents were deeply shocked Wednesday as news spread cf the accidental death by electrocution of Thomas Alma Hollis, 34, lineman and service man for the Telluride Power company. com-pany. The accident occurred Wednesday Wednes-day morning at about 9:15 o'clock near the Max Trautmann farm in South Milford. In company with Kent Smith and Otto Norton, fellow fel-low employes of the company, Mr. Hollis had been working on the transformer rack at the Trautman corner. The transformer had burned burn-ed out some time ago and was being put into shape for the irrigation irri-gation season. While Smith and Norton finished up the work on the transformer, re-filling it with oil and attending to other details, Hollis made his way to the pole carrying 6600-volt live wires. The wires from this pole to the transformer trans-former were down and had been spliced" that morning preparatory to being reconnected. Before doing this it was the intention of the workers to disconnect the line at a point further away and when Hollis started up the pole it was presumed he was merely intending intend-ing to attach the wires to the cross arm bracing. It is apparent that he proceeded farther, however, how-ever, as he had attached his belt and thrown one leg over the cross arm. Smith's work kept his face turned from this pole for the time being and, just as he turned about and looked in that direction, it was to see the doomed man stiffen momentarily and then slump backward. The power was cut quickly, the victim removed from his position at the cross arm' by his companions, compan-ions, and Dr. R. R. Shannon summoned. sum-moned. But it was evident that he had died instantly though suffering suf-fering only small burns on his left foot and the fore-finger of his right hand. The body was taken care cf by V. Waddoups, representing repre-senting the Southern Utah Mortuary. Mor-tuary. (Funeral services for the deceased deceas-ed will be held Sunday afternoon at 1 o'lock in the Milford L. D. S. chapel, with burial to take place in Fillmore, former home of Mrs. Hollis. Also surviving him are a two-year old son, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hollis, and two brothers and a sister. A complete obituary sketch will be published next week. M |
