Show the Football team For the first time in the history of Bingham Canydn schools, this town is represented by a football team. There is nothing out of the ordinary in this statement, as most every high school in the country has a. football team, but when it is known that heretofore here-tofore the Bingham Canyon schools have relied upon basketball for its major sport, being without a suitable place to play baseball or football, the showing of the boys this year becomes be-comes all the more praiseworthy. Football is a trifle different than most of the other sports, as one does not have to have natural ability to become a star. In baseball if one has not the "knack" to be a pitcher, catcher or outfielder, or is unable to hit the ball, it is rather hard to teach him. He must have the ability before be-fore going higher, or making a name for himself in this particular line of sport. In basketball, this same condition con-dition exists .although not so pronounced. pro-nounced. It is possible to make a forward out of a guard, but the player play-er must have some ability or he would never have been a guard. In football this rule doesn't hold, and although there may be those who disagree, the fact that the Bingham Canyon football team of this season has a line that cannot be passed, proves this statement, because on this said line are seven men who never saw a football line before. In the two games played thus far, the Bingham Bing-ham Canyon team has displayed rare ability for beginners. They held the Granite team to a 13 to 0 score and a few days later battled the Jordan seconds to a 13 to 12 game. Thus far but a handful of high school students have attended the football games played by the local lads. Where are the followers of the school? Where are those who would miss a meal to see these same lads on a basket ball floor? Surely football foot-ball is just as vital to the Bingham Canyon' High School as is basketball or baseball. In playing a game of football a team needs the assistance of the side lines as well as the assistance of its players. Why don't some of the fans of the town follow the team? Why don't they look over this gang of youngsters who are fighting hard to cause enough comment to make football foot-ball a permanent fixture at the local institution of learning? To be a football player, a student needs nerve, needs courage and needs gray matter in his head. That the (Continued on Page 5.) The Football Team (Continued from Page 1.) locals have these three attributes has already been proven, but the moral support of the community has been missing. Get together, fans, make up your mind you will go and see the football team in action. Make up your mind you are going to see what it is about the team that other elevens have found impossible to penetrate. The boys need your support. They need your cheering, they want to bring glory to Bingham Canyon High School, but they cannot do 'it single-handed. single-handed. Let's get together and pull for the Bingham Canyon football team, and make it a permanent proposition. |
