The South Bond, Ind., Register of tho 2,'!d ult. says : "A middle-aged man, named John Kelly, a farmer in Centre township, mot ivith a terriblo doath a fow niilca south of this city, somotinio botween last Wednesday night and Thursday morning, lio started from hero for homo on Wednesday evening, just before be-fore dark, and niM so drunk that his wholo wagon seat would hardly suffice to hold him. On tho way ho stopped at a farm house and requested that an acquaintance go homo with him, but tho request was not granted. That wag tho latt seen of Kelly until his deid body was found, about nine o'clock next morning, in tho by-road leading to his farm, astrido a stump, with tho head hanging downward and firmly fastened between two protruding roots. His team stood near by, entangled en-tangled in the underbrush, and the supposition is, that when it became entangled, en-tangled, he got out of the wagon to find tho road, and falling astride the stump, his head struck among tho roots and his neck was broken. He was so full of whisky, wo learn, that when his body was raised from the stump, the fiery liquid ran from his mouth in eo-pious eo-pious quantities." |
