Show r Thursday, May 19,2005 SPRINGVILLE HERALD Westside students hike 13 miles! How many fifth grade students stu-dents do you know who can hike a half-marathon? Well, there are many at Westside Elementary. Ele-mentary. Approximately 70 fifth grade students, accompanied by parents par-ents and teachers, participated in a 13-mile hike on Monday, May 16th. Students boarded the bus at school and drove to Utah Lake, where they began their journey. They spent the better part of the day hiking the Provo River Parkway Trail, traveling up Provo Pro-vo Canyon, and finally reaching their destination at Bridal Veil Falls in the early afternoon. Although exhausted, students were pleased with their accomplishment. accom-plishment. They had trained throughout the year for this event, running a mile around the schoolyard after recess on many days. In order to participate in the hike, students were required to run the mile in less than ten minutes; min-utes; if unable to do so, a parent or guardian was asked to accompany ac-company the child on the hike to provide assistance in cases of fatigue. fa-tigue. How did the students describe the hike? In a chorus, the responses re-sponses included, "Long! Tiring! Fun! Painful! Exhilarating!" With many Americans having an increasingly sedentary lifestyle, and the news full of reports re-ports of obesity, Westside Elementary Ele-mentary is pleased to have students stu-dents who are participating in fitness activities, and developing habits of physical activity which will continue to serve them well throughout their lives. r : ; s . r'Vjr" 1 t "r" i , . . 4 - ' :' ' frv t It i 1 V5 . s . Once a shade tree hobby, hob-by, building street rods these days is stepping into the investment invest-ment arena. Horvath's own 1940 Ford roadster will top $300,000 when completed, he said. The complete com-plete chassis and wheels alone cost some $50,000, including the 510 cubic inch, 1,000 horsepower, horsepow-er, supercharged Chevy engine. "I've already been offered $150,000 for it," he said, "and it isn't even finished yet." Building a street rod can cost as little as $10,000 or can easily exceed $500,000 with the value increasing with time. The cars he's showing Saturday Satur-day are 1973 Chevy Nova and his son Brian's 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan which sports custom graphics and air ride suspension. He's also exhibiting an original origi-nal Model A Ford owned by David Faux of Pleasant Grove. Be sure that it is not you that is mortal, but only your body.
