Show Paraho and Davy AAcKee Corp. to develop oil shale An agreement between Paraho Development Corporation and Davy McKee Corporation to jointly develop and market detail design engineering for commercial facilities to produce oil and gas from oil shale using the Paraho process was announced last week. Paraho Development Corporation, based in Grand Junction, Colorado, is a leading oil shale technology and development company. It has successfully suc-cessfully demonstrated its patented technology on domestic and foreign oil shales. Paraho became a public corporation cor-poration in iy0 and is traded over the counter. Davy McKee Corporation, with headquarters head-quarters in Cleveland, Ohio, is a large engineering-construction company serving ser-ving the process industries worldwide and has participated and assisted in the development and design of the Paraho retorting process since 1973. Formed as the ParahoDavy McKee Shale Oil Systems, the joint undertaking undertak-ing will be headquartered in Paraho's corporate offices in Grand Junction. The Paraho retort is a simple, above ground, vessel that incorporates features from many of Paraho's twenty five patents. It embodies engineering concepts for efficient oil shale retorting including gravity" feed, a counter current cur-rent flow heat exchange system and the direct combustion of carbon to recover additional heat from the processed shale. Over 110,000 barrels of shale oil have been produced by Paraho retorts in long, continuous runs at high thermal efficiency. Much of this crude shale oil has been refined into high quality petroleum products in modern commercial com-mercial refinery equipment. Following successful field operations in semi works scale, detailed designs were completed for commercial size Paraho retorting equipment. The Paraho process requires lower investment invest-ment and operating costs and consumes relatively little water to produce more net usable energy and dispose of the processed shale in an environmentally acceptable manner. |
