BLODGETT CENTERVILLE Does a previous owner of water have prior rights if a well owned by the city causes private wells to dry up or lose water pressure? RON RANDALL, of Center-ville, Center-ville, thinks they do. And he has approached the Centervil-le Centervil-le City Council with just such a cause. Mr. Randall told the council last Tuesday night that he represents rep-resents three property owners whose wells have been seriously se-riously affected by the pumping pump-ing of water by a city-owned well located nearby. "WE HAVE lost considerable consider-able amount of water pressure, even to the point of getting air into our lines," said Mr. Randall. Ran-dall. "Our wells are getting very low and it's all a result of the city-owned well drawing pressure and water from our private wells." He said he felt that "it won't be long until our wells will be dry and we won't have any culinary water." MR. RANDALL emphasized empha-sized that several residents of the area including the three home owners involved protested pro-tested when the well was dug several years ago by Warde Holbrook of Bountiful. The well was not used by Mr. Holbrook, Hol-brook, however, and was purchased pur-chased a few years ago by the city. Centerville officials said the well had been pumping water for only one year. BUT MR. Randall contends that during the past year his well and wells of his neighbors have reduced drastically in both the amount of water and ,the water pressure that they ' ;get now compared to before 1 the city-owned well began i pumping. : "We have absolutely no wa- I ; ter pressure and very little wa- j Iter in our wells," said Mr. ! . Randall. He invited the council to visit his place and see what he alleges the city well has done to his water supply. 1 i MR. RANDALL then asked ! the council to allow the proper- j ;ty owners with prior wells to j connect to the city culinary : water lines and be supplied j city water at no cost. ' ! Councilman Robert Arbuckle was the first to respond re-spond to this by stating, "I think these people have a ligiti- mate complaint about the city well having some affect on their private wells, but to what extent I can't say. However, I am not in favor of : free service to these p an unspecified lime.' HE EMPHASIZED officials were aware' might be some probk ; the well began pump ' might reduce pre. what, but "I do r,: that the city-owns: drying up your wells have water although a little deeper and a. difficult to get." Mayor Golden A that the city has at to everyone in the cr. it was necessary tot' , to serve residents of j "THE CITY was able to everyone, f j to pay his share," added. "I don't s; ' can allow you and: , bors to hookup at-city at-city water at no cos: isn't fair." Others on the co. they would consid:' bility of allowing th-owners th-owners to hookup : water line without did not, at this ti-free ti-free water seni allowed. CITY COST ; hookup is $300. Final action b) -. was delayed uf allowing city on-; an on-site inspect ter problem. |
