Show CLIMBED TWIN PEAKS Contest Between Mountain Climbers From Colorado and Wyoming An exciting mountain climbing contest con-test took place from Murray last Sunday Sun-day the contestants being Herman Neipage n noted Pikes Peak climber and Claud Victor a mountaineer from the Grand Tetons Wyoming The conditions con-ditions were that the trip should be made fromb Murray t the top ol me Twin Peaks and return between sunrise sun-rise and sunset About 100 w ra I wagered on the result I was a hard and dangerous climb I is said that no one ever had scaled the north Twin Peak before and the climb involved a toilsome journey up 2000 feet of ledes The Pikes Peal man was a daring jumper and leaped down perpendicular ledges from ten to eighteen feet while Victor used a GOfoot rope throwing it over a rock or mahogany tree and descending des-cending 30 foot when he would let go one end and draw down the rope for anew a-new start Within six hours after sunrise young Victor planted the American flag on the peak 7000 feet above Salt Lake valley when it can still bo seen with a good glass if the wind has not blown it down His feat urprlsed everyone as it was thought impossible to scale the lofty height in so short a time Nelpage built i fire about 2uO feet from the top which could be seen for 20 miles Victor Vic-tor arrived at Murray one hour before sunset |
