Show Western States Form Huge Turkey Assn. Perfection ot the Northwest Turkey Tur-key Growers association into a permanent per-manent organization of about 14,000 producers in Utah and six other states,' was accomplished recently in Salt Lake at a conference between! represeatatives of the Federal Farm' board and executives of existing' pools. j The huge association is now in-' corporated under the laws of Utah and has permanent headquarters in' Salt Lake. Purpose of the organization is the: scientific marketing, as one pool, of the "holiday bird" crops ot Utah,! Idaho, Montana, Washington, Colo-' rado, Oregon and Nevada. About SO per cent of the production of these states is already included in the gigantic gi-gantic pool, making it the largest in the world. Specific objects of the new turkey merger are: The promotion of orderly order-ly marketing of turkey produced in j the northwest; establishment of uniform uni-form prices; the production and packing of higher grade birds; the sstablishment of quality, and obtain-, ing recognition for this quality. Speculation will be minimized through co-operation with responsible respon-sible buyers and the use of federal jrade uniform quality standards. Clyde C. Edmonds of Salt Lake, general manager of the Utah Poul try Producers Cooperative association, associa-tion, has been made general manager manag-er as well as director ot the new organization. or-ganization. George Gustafson of Chinook, Montana, is president; Herbert Beyers, Roseburg, Oregon, vice-president and assistant general manager, and L. E. Cline, Fallon, Nevada, secretary-treasurer. Mr. McKay outlined the functions I of the Federal Board and explained I its aims, none of which are to participate parti-cipate in business by buying or sejl-'ing sejl-'ing farm products. "Any turkey .grower who is looking for a stable 'and satisfactory system of mrketing jhis turkeys now has the opportunity : to stand shoulder to shoulder with his neighbors in building up such ! system, with the assurance the gov-' gov-' ernment is behind him in his ef-orts," ef-orts," he announced. Offices have been set up in the Dooly building. It is expected the association will market this year's turkey crop, now being grown. o |
