Show Utah Pea Crop Will Exceed That of 1948 The combined Utah-Idaho pack of canned peas for 1949 is likely to be higher than last year's, according ac-cording to preliminary crop estimates esti-mates forecast by the agronomy division of the American Can Co. If good crop conditions continue, farmers of the two states will produce 1,500,000 cases this year, compared with 1,170,871 in 1948. This estimate would raise the Utah-Idaho area to fifth place among the nation's major canned-pea canned-pea producing areas, just below Illinois Il-linois and just above the Maine-N. Maine-N. Y. area. The total U. S. production of peas for the year is currently calculated cal-culated at 27.850.000 cases an increase in-crease of roughly 4,500,000 cases over last year. |
