(v (3 Just one large event, the Bird-Sinclair wedding, wed-ding, has marked the week, so far as evening affairs are concerned, and there has been precious little doing for the men, though the ladies have managed to put in the time fairly well. Luncheons Lunch-eons and teas have been the only events, with the exception of a little dinner or two. tiS1 & la It is understood that the fifth annual opening of the Country Club, scheduled for today, with Mrs. Robert Harkness and Mrs. George P. Hol-man Hol-man as hostesses, will take the form of a Christmas Christ-mas tree entertainment if snow plows enough can be mustered to clear the roads. The season promises prom-ises to be a merryi one, but the start may be rather doleful owing to climatical conditions. tC iffi (3 Seal skins and not see skin waists will be in order at the Country Club today. & 58 The wedding of Mrs. Louise Smedley Smith and William H. Curtin of St. Joseph, Mo., will take place next Wednesday and will be a very quiet affair owing to the death of the brother of the bride. The ceremony will be witnessed only by the immediate relatives. The bride and groom will spend a month or two in California before going go-ing to St. Joseph to live. ; J & & The wedding of Miss Laura Bird and Mr. Frederick Fred-erick W. Sinclair, which took place on Wednes- day evening at the home of Major and Mrs. William Wil-liam H. Bird, was a beautiful event, followed by a brilliant reception attended by the many friends of the young couple. The ceremony was witnessed wit-nessed by the families and intimate friends and was performed by Father Kieley. The bride was attended by Miss Fannie Bird and Lawrence Ham-mel Ham-mel was best man for Mr. Sinclair. The house was gorgeously decorated with beautiful flowers and the scene during the reception was ono of exquisite beauty. Mr. and Mrs. Sinclair will live in this city. W 0& && When a minister of the gospel goes out of his way to draw the lessons for his sermon from a social event of which he knows nothing except from the lips of gossips in his congregation, he is narrowing down to a point far below the mark his few friends thought he might attain, and he makes himself an object of ridicule for many in and out of his parish. & & d A wedding of much interest to Salt Lakers was that of Miss Beatrice Wertheimer and Mr. Leon Sweet, which took place at Birmingham, Ala., on Wednesday evening. After a short eastern trip Mr. and Mrs. Sweet will be at home in this city. |
