Sky Divers Rolayne Mattisson and Larry Bagley of the Hemisphere Sky Diving Club, stepped out of a Piper Cub at 6,000 feet to get to the ball game. Roylayne fell free to 4,000 feet before pulling her rip cord, while Larry was hovering above, with smoke streaming from attached to his legs. He landed on the SO yard line and delivered the ball to Referee Jerry Coleman, and the game can-niste- rs yards on returns, and therein lies the tale. He scored a 97 yard touchdown on a kick-of-f return, and scored again on a 52 yard pitch-ou- t and run around left end to win the game for the Lakers. Bonneville spotted the Lancers a two touchdown lead just ten seconds into the second quarter, but came back in the fourth quarter to score twice for the victory. Layton drew first Mood on a 48 yard Mark Vigil pass to Dave Burke in the first quarter, but the kick for PAT was hobbled, and that miss came back to haunt the Lancers. Layton kicked off after the T.D., and Ellis glided, untouched, for 97 yards to knot the score, and the Lakers went ahead 6 on Ted Rickards kick for the extra point. The Lancers capitalized on a 7-- Laker miscue for their next score. A bad snap from center, on a punt, resulted in a recovered fumble for Layton on the Bonneville three yard line and in two plays they punched it in for a 7 advantage. Layton went for a two point convention, but. missed. Next score fdr Laytoh came on a 37 yard keeper bj Mark Vigil 12-- by DLa)kG,s just ten seconds into the second quarter. The Lancers were and maintained that advantage until seven seconds into the last quarter, when Cory Sylvester capped off a 60 yard drive with a 30 yard T.D. pass to out-fro-nt 19-- 7 Gilbert Ballingham. Layton still had a five point lead and the ball in Laker territory with six minutes to play, but fumbled on the Lancers 48 yard line and thats when and where Ellis skirted the end to score the winning touchdown. Cory Sylvester'did not have a day of passing. He completed only 7 of 27, and was intercepted four times, but he good completed four consecutive passes, late in the game to put the Lakers within striking distance at and Marv Ellis did the 19-1- 4 rest. Coach predicted Thom Budge had Its going to be a beck . a game, and he was right. Ellis did everything but escort the homecoming queen to her said Coach Steve throne, Gardner, after the game. We wanted them real bad, added an elated Marvin Ellis. of began. Laker Lancer Prognosticators had billed the Laker - Lancer game as a shootout between Bonnevilles Marvin Ellis and Dave Burke of Layton, but the Lancers also had k a runner that shared centerstage with the two allstars. Burke was the games leading rusher with 132 yards, but teammate Kurt Gallegos scooted through the line for 119 Lancer yards, and Mark Vigil picked up 65 yards. Marvin Ellis carried only 15 times, and his 116 rushing yards rated third behind both Burke -- skat-bac- and Gallegos, but Marvelous Marvin was credited with 177 MIKE SMITH (42) tries to turn the corner on Layton's Dave Lovelace (44). The Lakers barely pulled out the victory but finally went home a 20-- 9 victor and still stand BONNEVILLE'S 1 |
