Show SDS plans rap sessions to air grievances A plan to hold weekly "rap" sessions on Saturday as a means to develop a chapter political conscious was approved by the University chapter of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). Kathy Kobe suggested that because of the small membership of the group, that each month the whole chapter attack one problem, research it out and publish and distribute information on it. She said breaking the chapter into task forces, as was done last quarter, spread members of the group too thin, and "everybody felt like they were working alone." Would Accomplish Little Jeannette Brown countered that limiting the time to work on issues to a month would accomplish little, and suggested that the group needed to indulge in some kind of group therapy. "I don't know a lot of the people's names in SDS or what they want to accomplish." Miss Brown suggested the "rap" sessions, informal discussions over a period of hours, as a means to "find out what we want to work on." She added that if the chapter's goal was to promote a political consciousness on campus, the group ought to plan some way to implement this, like publishing a newspaper. A possible coalition between the Pillar of Salt, SDS and the Electric Newspaper was suggested. Discontinues Class In other business, Sherm Clow announced that because of certain personal commitments, he would have difficulty in continuing to teach ( he Free U class on the new left. Clow said he could start the sessions, but would be able to remain for only about 15 minutes of them. The group voted to let Clow continue and several members volunteered to come to the classes to help him out. Clow also said he had a film lined to show as a way to earn money for the group, and Miss Kobe volunteered to take this money making proposition to Student Affairs Board Monday. |
