Show wonders whether our benevolent protectors won't feel a bit frustrated with the University studentbody in any event. It's one thing to go hunting quail with a howitzer, but when there are no quail -- oh, wow -- what a mind-blowing frustration! Since demonstrations at the University (even the supergood kind) are about as plentiful as mammaries on a snake, what shall we do with all this new legal machinery and enforcement? Curses on those blasted inactive activists anyway! Ah, but what about the insidious dangers of campus revolts infecting our fair area from other pagan institutions on both coasts? Yes indeed, to be forewarned is to be forearmed (catchy phrase, isn't it?) Of course, points like cirriculum reforms being badly needed, demonstrations having brought attention to long-standing evils, constitutional guarantees of free assembly and other such trivia merit little, if anv. discussion. 2) We should be allowed one corner of the room as a place to read if we want to. This should be adequately, but not brightly lighted and it should be partitioned off from the rest of the room. 3) More comfortable heating. The old room was either too hot or too cold. Teresa Wiegel More news please Editor: The Feb. 6 Chronicle was terrific. I'm glad to see journalistic freedom has finally given way to the capitalistic virtue, "more money." Why don't you give up all together and sell page 1 and page 2 to advertising. After all, you have to compete with the Free Nickel Classifieds my wife packs up at the laundro-mat. I have to admit I was overjoyed to see the Chronicle competing with Playboy. A nude in a ball-point pen ad-at least I saved a $1 this month. You would think there is at least one issue to write an editorial on. Oh, well. I do hope there will be room for this letter in a future paper. Only one leUer was allowed in Thursday's-or maybe there was only one concerned student. Keep it up. You're goin' grand. Jeffrey R. Wardle Tanner open Editor: The headline used on the Chronicle article, Feb. 4, regarding the tanner Room being -closed, was unfortunate. Actually, there will be many meetings of student organizations held in the Tanner Room. It is entirely likely that there will be more student use of this room than faculty use. Kenneth T. Slack, Associate Director of Libraries Mountain men Editor: In his letter to Wednesday's Chronicle, Jim Jacobsen advised , that I "look into the goals and official statements of the Wasatch Mountain Club Conservation Committee." Concerning my "attack" on the committee, no claim was made as to their official goals. The term official is not applicable in this case because I spoke of "members of the organization." I am sure that as a member of the committee Dr. Dick does not stand alone in his view on the monument land addition. I apologize for misuse of the word wilderness. This seems to have become an official expression of the Department of Interior. I should have said wasteland. As for "maligning" Dr. Muliak-I merely stated he was incorrect in implying that the livestock producers are responsible for present land abuse. I support this with the irrational" argument that the Department of Interior has been administrating these lands since Richard Wintch Besides, our good laws and good administrators, being obviously inspired, wouldn't think of infringing on student rights. They just want to protect us from "outside agitator 'persons' " who will whisk us away into an emotional frenzy. A woman philosopher once said, "It is the property of true genius to distrub all established ideas." In looking for the commodity among the current legislators and administrators it makes one feel good - deep in his heart - to know they're busy building fences. Ian D. Barlow Quiet please Editor: I have a collection of what I ca'l "lonely things." The removal of the ladies' quiet room from the Union is going to become one of those lonely things. I need a quiet place where I can go when I'm hasseled. I need it. I would like to suggest that another room be created for this purpose. The old ladies quiet room had several drawbacks. Another room should have the following characteristics: l)Less light; the room should be decorated in muted colors like blues.
