Show Shirley Price expounds on dancing, the courts, motherhood and money Editor's note: Shirley Price appears nightly except for Monday and Tuesday at the Ore " Haus in Park City, Utah. Her showtimes are 10 and 12 p.m. By Ed Ditterline If anyone has the idea that Shirley Price, the well-known Park City entertainer is just another dumb broad that takes her clothes off, then they had better just sit down for a while and talk to her! Shirley, who has been harassed, pushed around, misquoted and arrested for everything from "improper dancing" to "lewdness" has some very definite ideas about her home, children, hobbies and especially her dancing. And Shirley is quite articulate. No Lessons i ' .' ' ? '- ' Although she never had any training for her dancing because family finances wouldn't permit it, she has always wanted to involve herself in the lessons. "Now," said Shirley, "I am called a professional and it would be difficult to go back and take lessons whenever I can work wherever I wish." Shirley has standing offers in Las Vegas, and has played in Hawaii and Los Angeles following such well-knowns as Tempest Storm. Shirley's nickname, "The Duchess," comes from two sources. When she was in school. (Continued on Page 8) I. ..-,-, .mi II. , ii -. .. .nr-aMw Photo by Lynn Feveryear Shirley Price, prominent Park City entertainer was interviewed Thursday on KUED-TV. The interview will be broadcast on channel seven Monday night, February 17 at 10:00 p.m. SHIRLEY! (Continued from Page 7) Shirley says she was regarded as a snob and so the kids called her "Duchess" just to be critical. However, her manager seemed to take the name much more seriously and recommended the name as her permanent show title. When Shirley talks about her dancing, she speaks with fierce determination. When she spoke about the comments that local authorities have about her dancing she said, "I certainly would't be doing anything which I felt was obscene or lewd. The human body is much too beautiful to be called obscene and if dancing is done tastefully, as mine is, then there is no reason for people to object." Still a little upset about her first court trial, which she lost as she had expected, she commented, "When someone has trouble getting through "Playboy" as one witness indicated he did, at the trial, then that person should definitely not come to see my show. I think that people who come to see my show should agree with what I am doing and not be got quite a kick out the fit time0 ;1'! anything like it." Shirley has been m before. Her p J somewhat leery or fact, Shirley said ft Bt I told him, ef e!: because ,t means Besides being a dacei , llkes to ride ho,, ?' oecause she doesn't C and she is quite seamstress. I can't crochet thour Shirley rarely has time! about her court case, bit decided that all thaluiiu,. , ottended by it or else tney snouid not see it." In demand Shirley's offers to dance in , various parts of the country indicate that she is in demand and ' she realizes that she is going up in the entertainment world. Shirley , is 29; she just had a birthday December 17. She doesn't mind ' telling anyone what her age is, but she does object "to the downtown , papers making me one year older." Confident that her body ' will continue to be in good physical shape, Shirley looks , forward to a long career ahead. "If Tempest Storm is still going, then I don't see why I can't do the ' same thing," she said. Much could be said about the ' wages which dancers like Shirley 1 are paid, but let it suffice to say , that Shirley gets paid almost ( double what the best go-go girls receive. (HINT: The go-go girls get ' nearly $200 so take it from there.) Having a family and being a dancer like Shirley could pose ' problems, but Shirley is honest with her husband and three children, and they have seen her act in one form or another. "The children are too young to ' understand some parts, but I feel that I should be honest with them, because they will be exposed to comments at school and . I want them to be prepared to answer anything which they might be asked." Shirley has a daughter 12, and two s-ons, ages eight and six. Staunch Mormons Parents could be a peculiarity in Shirley's profession and her parents are "staunch, very very staunch members of the Mormon church," she said. At first, Shirley's mother was very much against her dancing, but later became reconciled when she realized how badly Shirley wanted to dance. Her mother and stepfather have not seen the act as it is presently because her mother cannot stand the smoke at the club. She has, however seen her go-go act and as Shirley says, "She that she paid a $200 S: I spent some time in jail." J think that there are m.
