Show I That Prayer. CHAPLAIN who would make a burlesque of prayer is deserving I of sympathy. When one accepts the exalted and honored position of chaplain, he should be dignified and j respectful. His mission being to peti-I peti-I tion the Almighty for the enlightenment enlighten-ment of law-makers to see what is good End right, and courage to follow their e onvictions, it is his duty to cast asid all levity. Poking fun or attempting a joke whilst apparently addressing God, is very bad taste. In pray3r the soul Is elevated to heaven, .and the soul of the petitioner should be united with i God in spirit. It means that there should be an humble spirit.. Chaplain i : Porter forget his position, and like the Pharisees, who were severely condemned con-demned by the Savior for their pride und arrogance, his prayer was a jest. The soul that uses the time of prayer ! ' End prayer itself as a means of h'larity, I must be devoid of faith. Better dis- I pense with the services of a chaplain ; I than to be making his office the occa- I fion of a crude Joke. On srch solemn occasions there should be decorum and flignity. not levity and burlesque. A man invested with the sacred f inctlon 1 of religion, or clothed in the garb of a 1 - minister of religion should not fcrget 1 his sacred duty when acting in the I Btrvice of God. "Be not deceived; God I . (s not mocked." |
