According to Zaccardi, We are also working with the Air Force, since they are becoming a larger part of our community, and have additional requirements. To meet those needs, Iin working with LTC Slawson of the .Social Actions Office at Hill. That way, one orientation covers all the needs of the personnel, including the Air Force whose needs are slightly different than those-o- f Army personnel, she stated. Budget Counseling - This is an area in which many military families request help. Volunteers assist families in setting up budgets, how to decide best to use their eamings, explain credit and get themselves out of a money crunch. Loan Closet For families new to post and awaiting shipment of their whole baggage and household goods. ACSs loan closet can loan on a temporary basis the items that help the family liet by until theic goods arrive. Such things as cooking utensils, dishes, silverware, baby items, irons, some smaller appliances, (coffee pots,, blenders) and other such items. . Emergency Food Locker for incoming military families, sometimes pay, or travel can prevent them from arriving in time to get food when they first settle in, so the Emergency Food Locker helps them out. The locker can provide enough food to give the family' three solid meals a day, for up to three days. Nothing fancy, but good, nutritious, balanced meals that will help the family get over the hump until they can get to the store. Personal, Family, Parental, Marital Counseling - Currently, according to Zaccardi, ACS refers all its counseling to Mr. Gilbert Banks at the Health Clinic or to sources in Tooele, Salt Lake and Hill AFB. Right now though, we do work closely with the counseling center in Tooele County, and we do have people coming down from Hill AFB to help with some of the counseling. Financial Assistance - ACS does handle Army Emergency Relief and Air Force Aid at the Dugway office, as well as being the point of contact for Food Stamps, Title 20 (child care) and WIC (Women, Infants, Children-subsistenplan). These programs help provide the soldier and his family with assistance in emergencies. Classes - In recent times, ACS has sponsored seminars and classes on such subjects as parenting, finances, and other subjects. For example, Zaccardi explained, we had a seminar Jan. 28 on Budget and Beauty, in an effort to spark more interest by combining makeup techniques with household budgeting. Future seminars are also being planned for use by the Dugway community. . Help With Children - According to Zaccardi, that falls under Child Supl, the Child port Services. We do have the Day Care Center and abuse which covers and Care child Homes, neglect. Day Advocacy Program and the Handicapped Children program, she explained. Information and Referral - ACS puts out the welcome packet and has welcome packets from most installations stateside and some overseas. Incoming personnel can have the Dugway packet sent to them or receive it upon arrival. Persons getting orders and wondering what their next duty statical is like can also check out the welcome packet for that installation which not only tells them about the unit, but things about the post arid towns, schools, etc. nearby. This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the things ACS does and can do for the community. Next issue, well cover the volunteers of ACS, the people who make ACS work. THE central theme of the new Secretarys hearing revolved around the total Army concept which, according to Marsh, the United States government accepted when it decided to go to an force. The National Guard and Reserve will receive high priority and special attention, stated Marsh addressing the total force issue. During the very cordial and friendly hearing, the retired Virginia Army National Guard Lieutenant Colonel was questioned repeatedly on the subject of the draft and registration. ALTHOUGH not directly answering those questions. Marsh did allow the committee members his thoughts on the present system. Service to the nation is not only a privilege, but a duty of every citizen of the United States, commented Marsh. He also said the current selective service registration requirement was useful. In the area of readiness. Marsh offered two watchwords that the nations and the Armys leaders need to be concerned with. Adequacy and readiness." should be identified with the Armys ability to do its job, according to Marsh. Adequacy includes such things as the size and structure of the forces, its weaponry and other machinery. Readiness involves things such as individual soldier skills and competency and the ability to move quickly. I am not only a servant of the people, but a n &eaLt naton uid this committee, said Marsh, and I will devote my time, talents and efforts to that (Army Secretary) post. ser-Va- f. u 3 MAJOR PIECES Q Full Queen headboard Clar Hansens Crew of Top D D Only D D Rated Technicians Are Ready to Give q You the Best In Service $189 - Closeout (Prices discontinued Stifles- Pine Finish" Country Style D Twin dresser Mirror 0 Headboard SaveSSO fti? 71I, s rO D D Contemporary Style D Save $50 .....$189 $89 Matching Chest Matching Nltestand I Your Car Will Thank You With Every Clean Breath Early American Distressed Maple Finish It Takes Save $110 Dresser Hutch Mirror Headboard Chest D a and LID D AL 0 Furniture-Appliartc- Fine D Quality-Fa- I , UTION Service-Term- s - 54 So.
