Specialty acts Richard Sterban's incredible bass voice brought cheers every time he unleashed his lowest range, which he told a press conference goes down to an A or B flat on an average night. He said he has recorded a couple of notes even lower. Sterban seemed to rattle the tiles on the roof of the Marriott Center and the Salt Palace. Joe Bonsall most talkative of the group, said of Sterban's voice: "That's an incredible talent we've been around him for years and we are still amazed by what he can do " LESLIE JENKINS during the pageant were provided by his studio. Killed in the Friday crash into Mt. Whittington in New Mexico were American Fork residents Jay R. Rawl-ing731 N. 610 E. and Robert C. Wilson, 617 E. 875 N. Also killed were Jack L. Kerbs, 42 and his wife Joyce Kerbs of Draper, and Gerald Andersen, Kerbs of Draper, and Gerald Andersen, 55, and his wife Shirley Andersen. 65, -- s. Elaine Rawlings wife of Jay Rawlings. told The Daily Herald the Utah men were returning to Utah after making tours of ancient historic ruins in Mexico. Jack Kerbs, pilot of the downed plane had made Mexico trips several times with Rawlings his wife said. The two others were involved in the business of taking Mormons on tours of ancient Mexico historic sites. Mrs. Rawlings said she and her husband have four children, and Wilson has eight. She said the bodies of the plane victims have been "encased" at the crash site, but weather is still preventing efforts to bring them off the mountain. Funeral arrangements for her husband she said are being worked out by Anderson Mortuary; while arrange special feelings about Salt Lake and Utah. They have appeared at the state fair and other places a number of times in the past decade, and during very lean years they have always been well received by Utahns He said while there have been lags in their career in other parts of the nation, consistent play by Salt Lake's country station KSOP a sponsor of the Salt Lake concert! kept them on regional charts in Utah and kept their career alive here when it had flagged elsewhere Sterban joked about being part owner of the Salt Lake Gulls baseball team saying one of the motivations for buying the team was its Hawaii play schedule As part owner he will be able to justify some tropical sunshine. The concert was a mixture of styles with the light popping excitement of a rock concert, the mellow harmony and music of a country performance. The Oak Ridge Band sounds hot and the Boys bring the string of country - rock - gospel hits. The Boys, switched from purely gospel music in 1977 to a mix of country, rock and religion, and their first hit single Y AH Come Back Saloon, hit the top of national hit charts. Audiences in both cities were well represented by fans in western outfits, but concertgoers seemed to fit no clearly defined age or interest limits. The concert itself was alive with activity, flashy lighting and the very individual personalities of the Boys themselves who genuinely seemed turned on by the receptive Utah crowds. Thelma Thomas. Chosen as Miss Congeniality by the contestants themselves was Julie Allen daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Allen. Julie and Sherri also won the prize for selling the most tickets to the pageant with each of them selling 105 tickets. Tina Allgire came in second in this category. Rescuers on foot Sunday battled snow and steep terrain for three hours and finally arrived at the crash site. But New Mexico State deputy medical investigator Leo Lujan decided it would be too dangerous for the rescuers to try to carry out the six bodies. He decided to wait for better weather to allow a the crash military helicopter to rea-site for the recovery. "I could find 60 very physically fit men and we'd hurt 50 percent of them if we had to get them out," Lujan said. "It's very rocky very dangerous. It took three hours to walk into the site and it's only a mile - and - a- - half from the vehicles to the crash site." Lujan said the six were "more than likely killed instantly" when the plane crashed Friday 9 600 feet up Mt. Whittington, about 42 miles southwest of Socorro. The last communication the pilot made with the ground was that his wings were icy and he asked for clearance to go up in elevation hoping to clear the ice.
