Walker will receive the academy's first Gordon E, Sawyer Award. The Sawyer Award was established in 1980 to recognize exceptional long-teraccomplishments by an individual who has made substantial contributions toward the science or technology of the motion picture. The award, and Oscar statuette, is named ih honor of the late veteran sound director of the Samuel Goldwyn Studios. Bill Conti, who was nominated for the song, 'Gonne Fly Now" in "Rocky" and is a nominee again this year for composing "For Your Eyes Only." will be the musical director for the awards ceremony.
