The storm was one of the "freakt est" ever known in England. It cov ered a wide area and did much dam age. Many houses were struck by lightning. The rain was one of the heaviest experienced in years. In a number of London suburbs the streets were under water to a depth of nearly a foot. In some sections there was a sharp fall of snow, while only a few yards away the sud shone brilliantly.
