Frontier Service Offering Free Pick Up Of Scrap Metal By Harriet Priska ESCALANTE Frontier Auto Service has made an offer for "free" pick up of scrap metal and automobiles in the Escalante area. Owner Curt Richins has offered this as a service to the community, hoping that the metal compacted will cover the cost of getting the portable crusher unit into Escalante the first part of June. The offer includes old cars, trucks, metal or metal objects such as washers, dryers, hot water tanks, etc. Richins points out that it is a federal offense to have more than three abandoned vehicles on a person's property, except for farm and construction equipment and vehicles over 30 years old. Another important point is that presently banks and insurance companies are requiring accountability for all vehicles in an effort to recover lost and stolen vehicles. All autos towed must show a valid bill of sale. Richins will have another crusher run as Escalante City has asked him to clean up the city dump. So the offer for "free" pick up will remain in effect throughout the summer. Richins says his is the only licensed impound yard in Garfield County and it has taken him over a year and a great deal of time, money and paperwork to He did the "Dare Car" for the Kane County Drug Task Force and worked with Kevin Moore on the demolition entry for the annual Garfield County Demoliuon Derby, bring it about. He currently has some 112 vehicles in various stages of disrepair awaiting scrapping. Restoring old antique cars is Richins love and he has been doing auto body work for over 36 years. |
