Bryan and I invite you to join, contribute, and PLAY at www.OgdenValleyMagazine.com— the on-line source for everything Ogden Valley,” states on-line magazine founder Kris Wilkerson. - BEFORE THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION OF UTAH DOCKET NO. 06-540-T01 ISSUED: August 14, 2007 PATHWAYS cont. from page 1 face the many challenges that rapid development entails—watershed and animal habitat protection, zoning, community cohesion, etc. Many Valley residents, new and old, wonder what they can do to help our community retain its beauty and productivity so that it remains a pleasant place for all of us to live in together. While we all have a different role to play in maintaining our desired livelihoods in this community, there are some collective actions that must be taken to ensure Ogden Valley remains a wonderful place to live and recreate. One such plan is presented by Ogden Valley Pathways (www.ovpathways.org), a local group that “believes that non-motorized pathways in Ogden Valley help to maintain and enhance its beauty, pastoral atmosphere, rural lifestyle, outdoor recreation opportunities, and sense of community.” You may have heard of this group (or Weber County Pathways, a close affiliate of Ogden Valley Pathways [OVP]), or even seen some of OVPs’ paths being built along Pineview Reservoir and other locations throughout the Valley. While this group has been around for awhile (since the mid-90s), it has been re-energized by local community members who see the vision of this group becoming ever more relevant as the Valley’s population grows and development breaks up the Valley into smaller and smaller pieces. Ogden Valley Pathways is having its first annual Celebration of Pathways, a fundraiser and “friend-raiser,” on September 15 to bring together community members interested in making this vision a reality. The group is currently cooperating with government entities, private property owners, and other community members to implement and negotiate the Ogden Valley Pathway Master Plan (part of the General Plan and available on the OVP website) that links Ogden Valley’s communities, trailheads, and other points of interest with non-motorized paths. With the Valley experiencing its most rapid growth since the days of the early pioneers, it is vital that community members unify to create a safe “walkable” community before future development makes it impossible. Creating these pathways is not only beneficial for walkers, hikers, bikers, horses, and skiers, traveling on non-motorized paths will help preserve the beauty and ecological integrity of the valley for generations to come. As we acknowledge the community’s unique history, our current state of development, and the Valley’s, hopefully, bright future, these pathways will be a way to unite our community. Pathways can unite us not only with safe paths but through the many interactions that will arise on these community corridors. Anyone with concerns, interested in helping, or wanting more information should visit the Ogden Valley Pathways website. Everyone’s input is welcome and needed to help make this a successful project. There are many ways to contribute to the Pathways projects that you can find on the website. Also, you can support The Celebration of Pathways on September 15. The event is being held at Snowbasin Resort, and will include guided trail activities, a barbeque buffet, auction, and raffle. Pre-registration tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for kids. Tickets are available by calling (801)-620-1021 or by visiting the Ogden Valley Pathways website at <www. ovpathways.org> Tickets purchased on the day of the event will cost an additional $5. Ticket prices includes an annual membership to OV Pathways and a Snowbasin Gondola Day Pass. All profits from the event go to building pathways and trails in Ogden Valley. As the Valley continues to grow, it is important for our community to come together to protect our common interests and values rooted in our beautiful home. Ogden Valley Pathways is just one of many ways we can come together to create a more cohesive and unified community while also protecting the land that we all live upon. For more information regarding Ogden Valley Pathways, please visit <www.ovpathways.org> Meetings are held every month on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Ogden Valley Library. And we hope to see you at the 1st annual Celebration of Pathways on September 15 at Snowbasin.
