WASHINGTON National attention Nov. 3 will be focused on the Democratic-Republicastruggle for control of the Senate and House, but equal or greater importance if one is looking ahead to the 1972 presidential election. n The office of a governor is a powerful platform in any state in a presidential year. The recovery o i the Republican Party from its 1964 debacle can be traced to 1966 when it captured eight governorships in addition to a gain in the House of Representatives. The trend continued in 1968. Although President Nixon won by only an eyelash, Republicans added five more state houses and emerged with 30 of the nations 50 governors.
