Show OLD FOLKS HOE SALA GALA DAY BAY the annual outing of the old folks held in this thi s city tuesday was attended by approximately t two to o hundred guests from tooele thoele Grants grantsville ville and other sections of the county the tooele thoele band under the leadership of alfred M nelson opened the mornings program with a serenade the south ward chapel was filled with an appreciative audience and an appropriate and excellent program was rendered the north and south ward re relief lef societies had prepared a bounteous lunch which was served to all over 65 years in the banquet hall ball of the church following the program at two manager gillett of th the e strand theatre was host to the happy crowd the super pro over the hill was produced for their special benefit the days program was waa concluded by a dance in the south ward amusement hall the earliest pio pioneers heers present at the meeting were mrs mary herron mrs samanthia white and mrs susanna dunn who came to tooele thoele in 1850 mrs harriet of grantsville Grants ville was also a member of this company buteas but was not in attendance atthe at the meeting the oldest handcart veteran was waa john england of f 7 thoele tooele oo 00 ele who came as far as florence bebr in 1856 and came to utah in 1860 with an ox neami team mrs eliza Eng england lind his wife arrived in utah in 1856 with the first handcart company the oldest man presen present was mathias B nelson of tooele thoele age 93 and the oldest woman present was mrs mary anderson of clover age 88 information was obtained that the oldest man in the county is john mclaws of tooele age 94 and the oldest woman is mrs fredrieka fredricka lindberg of grantsville Grants ville first ward who will be 93 years old september ath prizes were given to the fol 10 wing lowing J C shields for being the first man who drove the first immigrant team john A bevan oldest native born resident in rocele county mrs jane bell of grantsville Grants ville for haying having the largest family mrs mary herron oldest resident settler in tooele thoele county mathias B nelson oldest man present john england englan d for being the oldest band handcart eart veter veteran ar and mrs mary anderson of clover for being the oldest woman present at the gathering |
