Show NEARLY ALL EASTERN NEWSPAPERS contain one or more attractive advertisements of firms or individuals who profess to supply cheap cards. In some cases the advertisers are found honest enough to fulfill their offers, while others receive the funds of the public and neglect making reply. These cards are offered at less prices than they can be purchased for legitimately. The evident object of the regular ?[turns, terms] is to obtain the names of those "whose money burneth in their pockets," with a view of again tempting them with attractive bait in the shape of circulars in which extraordinary offers are made to supply chromos, obscene books lottery tickets, counterfeit money, and other illegitimate goods. We would caution our readers not to be deceived by these frauds, otherwise they will have a full opportunity to perform the old maxim of "repenting at leisure." |
