Show THE NATIONAL SIGNAL SERVICE, especially on the Atlantic coast, is being brought to a condition of great practical usefulness. The New York Herald, every morning, tells its readers what the condition of the weather will be for the next [30, 36?] hours, predicting the changes that will occur in the order in which they will come. The following paragraph from the Herald of Oct. [October] 13th, is a specimen of the daily predictions: "The weather in New York and its vicinity today will be cool, cloudy and rainy in the morning, with high northerly or northeasterly winds, followed by clearing. Tomorrow it will be warmer and partly cloudy or hazy, with southeasterly winds. The wind will gradually decrease tonight." |
