Hillcrest Children Fnoy Quest Children, 3 - G grades at Hillcrest Elementary School are taking part in Quest this year. Quest offers children the opportunity to participate in special activities for several weeks after Christmas each year. Each week classes rotate ro-tate to a different teacher to learn interesting things for one hour each day for three or four days. Third grades are taking part in Quest for the first time this year. Special interest activities activi-ties for 'them Include rhythmic activities under Mrs. Wilkinson; Wilkin-son; Rhythm Band, Mrs. Koller; crafts, Mrs. Parry; andCeram-ics, andCeram-ics, Mrs. Yergensen. Intermediate Inter-mediate grade children are involved in five different activities with teachers as follows: Wood burning, Mr. Schoonover; Creativity, Mr. Hales; Phys. Ed. Games, Mr. Fairbanks; Chess, Mr. Nuckles; and Leather Crafts, Mrs.Scott. Our faculty thinks that these enrichment experiences offer variety and change for children that makes learning challenging and fun. Quest may also provide, in addition to increased motivation and involvement in-volvement in learning, lasting interests or hobbies for children. Bird Watching Class Offered At Cherry Hill An introductory class to bird watching will begin at Cherry Hill Community School Wed., April 3. Al Davis, Orem High School Science and Recreation Teacher, Teach-er, ornithologist and avid outdoors man, will instruc t the classes which will be held Wednesdays, April 3, 10, 17, 24, and May 1.'. 24, and May 1, at 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Classes will be held a different dif-ferent place each meeting throughout Utah County from Utah Lake to Provo Canyon. The first class will meet in the lobby of Cherry Hill Elementary Ele-mentary School on April 3 at 4:00 p.m. There will be a $5.00 registration regi-stration fee for the class, which will include the use of high-quality high-quality binoculars and printed handouts. Register at Cherry Hill School on Thursday, March 28 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. or Friday, March 29 from 2 to 5 p.m. You may also register at the first class. This is a continuation of the Topic of 'Media: Issues in Communication. Communica-tion. Bernice Cox, head librarian li-brarian at the Orem Public Library was the guest speaker. speak-er. She also took the group on a guided tour of the three-story structure that was built in 1970, as part of the Orem City Center. Mrs. Cox reviewed briefly the history of the library as it progressed from the basement room of the old OrernCityCen-ter OrernCityCen-ter to the Paulson House and finally to the present beautiful building. She showed several scrapbooks showing the growth. She said, "We have one of the finest designed public libraries in the state of Utah. Everyone in Orem can benefit from the services of the library staff for there is something here for all of the members of the community." The librarian passed out several clever brochures of book lists done by library staff members to help patrons get acquainted with recommended recom-mended books to read. She referred to the evaluative lists such as Horn Book, ALA lists, and Utah State Libary lists that are used to select the reading read-ing material to offer to all ages of the eading public. She told the group, "We want to offer the best for the taxpayer's money.' The librarian said, "We have twice hosted the meetings of the Public Section of the Utah Library Association and we are proud of our facilities that are a reflection of the growth of the community itself." She referred to the fine use being made currently of the basement area by the Senior Citizens while they are wait-ingfor wait-ingfor their own building to be constructed. The AAU members visited the basement area to see the splace available avail-able for projected growth of the Audio-Visual department which will include all types of new media for listening and viewing as well as production. She enumerated the various machines already available for the use of the patrons in Orem. They include typewriters, overhead over-head projector, opaque projector, projec-tor, dry mount press, tape players and different copy machines. ma-chines. She said that this library li-brary is the only one in the state of Utah that sponsors speed reading courses. The study grup was concluded con-cluded with a tour through tire processing and work area for a "behind the scenes look at the quarters used by the staff. There are now 7 full time and 10 part time members on the staff of the Orem Public Library. Li-brary.
