Show To BUILD ON BR1OHAM First Presbyterians Select Site for New Church L AT THE CORNER OF C STREET At a Meeting of the Members of the Church Held Last Evening It Was Decided to Build on tho Teasdel Property on Brigham Near tho Head of Fourth East Price Is S30 OOQ Edifice to Be Erected Will Cost of 875000 Advantages of the Location The congregation of the First Presbyterian Pres-byterian church met last night and decided upon a silo for Us new church The volo was practically unanimous for what is known as the Teasdel site and C on the corner of Brigham streets The price while not definitely announced bv those having the matter In charge Is between 525000 and JoOOOO and the members of the congregation believe that with the proceeds from the sale of the present church site and what can be sold from the new site which is much larger than Is needed for church purposes the cost of the change will be very little The present site is 120 by 1C3 feet and is occupied by the church edifice the octagon building the parsonage The new site is owned by Samuel Newhouse who cleared It some time ago with the Intention of building a residence upon It It Is considered an especially favorable one for the church One hundred out ot the 175 families composing the church live cast of Fourth East The new site is fully us accessible by the car lines as the old site and possesses the additional advantage ad-vantage of being removed from the business center while at the same time being sufllclcntly close in to make St the central Presbyterian church of the city It will when completed be the only Protestant church In the city north of Brlgham street It Is proposed to erect a building to cost about 57uOOO on the new site The matter of soliciting funds for the purpose pur-pose is at present In the hands of the church session but a committee of business men for the purpose will be named soon The congregation will be enabled to use the present church for worship during the time the other building Is being erected and fitted It Is expected that work on the new building build-ing willnot be commenced before next spring although it may be started this falL S The meeting was unusually large almost al-most as large as at a Sunday service There was practically no opposition to the proposition to accept the site only a few of the members voting to retain the present site Dr Paden presided oVer the meeting which was held In the congregation room of the church and H G McMillan was the secretary The whole matter of the change had lefl thoroughly canvassed and discussed by the session and the board of trustees who made a report favoring the change Addresses in favor of the new site were made by Frank Pierce W F Colton Waller C Lyne Let yard Bailey Dr E V Silver E B Crltehlow W Jf Tlbbals Dr J C E King F W Francis and others The session had secured an option on the new site but could not close the deal without the consent of the congregation congre-gation which was obtained last night The sentiment of the meeting was overwhelmingly over-whelmingly in favor of the change Estimates from prospective purchases of the old property have been secured at a figure which as stated Indicate that the change is not going to prove very expensive to the members of the church S The erection of the proposed handsome hand-some edifice of the Presbyterian church i In such close proximity to the new Catholic cathedral will add much to the beauty of Brigham on which both of them will front |
