Show Sen. McGovern to visit for Utah speaking tour Sen. George S. McGovern, D-South Dakota, 1968 candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, will speak at Utah State Office Building Auditorium Monday, 3:15 p.m. Sen. McGovern, who took up the Bobby Kennedy banner after Kennedy's assassination, strongly opposed the Vietnam War and Pres. Lyndon Johnson's Poverty Program. His followers to the Democratic Convention were former Kennedy backers, who could accept neither Sen. Eugene McCarthy's half-hearted campaign, nor Vice President Hubert Humphrey's essential Johnson approach. The senator will stop in Salt. Lake enroute to an evening speech at Utah State University. He will arrive at the Salt Lake International Airport on a United Air Lines flight at 12:30 p.m., the public is welcome. A press conference is scheduled at the State Capitol at 1 p.m. |
