Show Voice of the People Dancing duo Editor: Is the rumor true that Heidi and Randy will soon be opening a dance studio? If it is, after their great performance at a recent party, I will surely be one of the first to join the club. They certainly were the most dazzling couple on the dance floor or have taught classes in writing. Some of us have publication records-a lot of us if you want to count showcase stuff like Moore's work in Pen and Utah Sings. Even if we didn't though, we're fairly unbiased, willing readers. We can't turn a hard-working undergraduate into a polished Playboy-contributor overnight or anything, but I think most of us would gladly do our best to make a fledgling writer relate to his craft at least deeply enough to figure out why we're wrong and he's right. This too is not without value. After all, no magazine yoi sell to guarantees even that your readers will be high school graduates, let alone students ol writing and teachers of it. Speaking for myself, I'm en willing to try to help Moore if he's game, such as I can. If he promises to stick to the writing and not bad-mouth the English faculty too much while we're together. George Weathers that night. With their renditions of dances both old and new they should make a mint. Darrell Leo Faculty help Editor: At first I thought, "Why bother? Any student doing creative writing around here probably has his own personal way of learning his craft all woi-ked out anyway." A couple of Mondays ago however, as I sat with other bored T.A.'s in a deserted writing lab (202 Bus. Lec. 3-5:15), I read one of the Chronicle piec?s by that Keith Moore. Last Monday, sitting much the same bored in much the came lab, I decided to petition the Chrony. One of the hardest things about learning to handle creative writing on campus or off, is getting the stuff you're working on critically read-rewrite after rewrite. Friends swear your're another Kurt Vonnegut after one draft and editors clip printed rejection slips on after ten drafts and there's nothing in between but lonely, frustrating work. Teachers usually can't be much help because the project may stretch over several months and be completely incompatible with a classroom format, let alone a specific course. And all this time, bored T.A.'s stare at one another in the empty writing lab. We're up there Monday through Friday every quarter; the English office can always provide times and locat1Qns. We're!
