Show SPRY BREAKS BREAD WITH CHINESE ISIS Chinese National Party Opens Campaign for U. S. Recognition. I Governor and Mrs. William Spry broke broad last night with representative represen-tative Chinese of Salt Lake, the occasion occa-sion being a diplomatic dinner as part of tho campaign of the Chinese Nationalist Na-tionalist party to have the United States recognize tho Chinese republic. Charles Chung is president of the local organization of tho party, which was formed in China and which has branches in all large cities in which the celestial republicans live. The dinner was givon at. headquarters headquar-ters of the party, 57 Richards street. Addresses wero made bv the governor, the Rev. P. A. Simpkin, who was toastmastcr, Dr. C. T. Smullyon and others. Birds' nest soup, chicken chop suey and other Oriental delicacies were served. It was probably the first time that, a governor of Utah attended a Chinese feast and tho first time for the governor's wife. Besides those mentioned, others who sat at tl-o table were Mr. and Mrs. Wellington Lake, Mr. and Mrs. t. b. Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. .1. L. Ivcyes, Mrs. C. T. Smullyon, Miss Annie Smullyon, Smul-lyon, Police Chief and Mrs. B. K Grnnt, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. bcott, Miss Alico Simpkin, John M. Simpkin, Miss Lillie Anderson, Mrs. Marcus E. .loncs. Mr. and Mrs. C. II. King, Mr. and Airs ITarrv King, Mr. and Mrs. Ben h. Rich, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Mariner, Mar-iner, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Parks, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lipmnn. The opening of a Chinese night school was discussed and the school will be opened in the near future. Dr. Sun Yat Sen is expected to come to this country in about a month and preparations arc already started for his reception. |
