These programs are designed by professionals and volunteers responding to the needs of their own communities. Children’s Advocacy Centers stress coordination of investigation and intervention services by bringing together professionals and agencies as a multidisciplinary team to create a child-focused approach to child abuse cases. The goal is to ensure that children are not re-victimized by the very system designed to protect them. In 1987, National Children’s Alliance was founded by Congressman Bud Cramer, then District Attorney of Madison County Alabama, in response to the needs of a growing number of facility-based child abuse intervention programs and the demand for guidance from grassroots organizations working with child victims. Today, NCA is a membership organization providing services to Children’s Advocacy Centers, multidisciplinary teams, and professionals across the country.
