Show FOUGHT FOR OFFICES. Convention of Washington Suffragettes Suffra-gettes Marked by Violent Scenes. Seattle, Wash. The state convention conven-tion of the Washington Woman Suffrage Suf-frage association on Wednesday was marked by scenes of the utmost confusion con-fusion and: almost violence. A faction numbering about fifty led by Mrs. Mary Arkwright Hutton of Spokane, sought to oust the present state officers, headed by President Emma Smith Devoe, whose supporters numbered about 200. The report of the committee on credentials declared the Spokane delegation not entitled to seats. In the debate on the report some of the delegates called others "thieves," "liars" and "scoundrels," and there was hysterical weeping and screaming. scream-ing. Speakers on both sides were hissed down. |
