Show I STAR BOSTON SHORTSTOP. is ' ' When Parent left the Boston American Amer-ican fold, the Beantown fans asked; "Who can play the position as acceptably ac-ceptably as Parent?" The question was soon answered by Wagner, then a recruit with the Red Sox. It was not long before Wagner opened the eyes of the baseball critics by his brilliant bril-liant playing. To-day he is one of the most finished infielders in the American league and covers a. wide area of ground on either side of him. Wagner is no relation to Hans Wagner, Wag-ner, the Pittsburg shortstop, but he is as valuable to Boston as Hans is to Pittsburg. Besides being a fielding field-ing star, Wagner hits timely. He is no slugger, but has a faculty for making hits at the right time, which counts. Manager Lake recently remarked: re-marked: "1 regard Wagner as being one of the most valuable members of the team." |
