Show FOURTH DULY CELEBRATED Independence day was remembered by the citizens of Gunnison with patriotic pa-triotic spirit. The early morning was nliTened with cannonading mid a serenade of lively strains from the brass band, its members all in bright uniform for the occasion. By half past tev o'clock the opera house held a considerable and enihus-iastlc enihus-iastlc assembly who were entertained in true patriotic style for a little bettor bet-tor than an hour's time. The program pro-gram as published last weak went on smoothly, each number buing readily responded to with marked ability. G. W. Barton, of Ephraim, waB the recipient of hearty congratulations on his delivery of the oration Mrs. Vil-lard Vil-lard road with clearness the Declaration Declara-tion of Independence. Miss Emilv Larson charmed the audience with the (.'losing number, "My Dream of the t. S. A.," asaieted in the chorus by i a select quartette. The brass band contributed commmendably of their 1 1 music. Uad the audience boon requested re-quested to stand and join the choir m their singing of "America" the excised ex-cised would have been all any citizen could ask Miss Ina Metcalf as Goddess, God-dess, with her attendants, occupied elevated position upon the stage. W. Metcalf directed the ceremonies and Mayor Metcalf briefly but pleadingly extended to all a hearty welcome. The afternoon was given over to varieties, viz., a children's dance in the opera house, with a plenteous distribution of fruit and sweets; a ball game, contested by sides ohosen between the si agio and married men, a priz of $10 going to the latter by an easy victory ; horse racing and foot raoing, prizes taken by Swalberg and Mart Peterson ; a fireworks' display dis-play from the bank building at dusk, finishing with a pretty balloon ascension ascen-sion ; the day's celebration ended with a crowded but well behaved danoe in the opera bouse until a late - i hour. Centerfieid was in line siso, and bad a stirring timet iu their new opera house. No mis imps are reported at either place. Weather was fine and patriotism beamed foremost with everyone participating. |
